Raku pottery two day workshop A Raku pottery two day workshop will be offered by Bill Bauer in the pottery studio. Raku pottery is a Japenese inspired low firing technique where the red hot pot is removed from the kiln and placed into a container with combustible materials which once ignited are closed and the pottery absorbs carbon from the smoke and unique effects take place on the surface of the pottery. Class will meet Saturday May 1st from 9-12am to create projects with the Raku clay. They will dry and be bisque fired during the next week and we will meet again the following Saturday May 8th from 10-12 to glaze your bisque pieces and then meet after lunch at 1 to Raku fire the glazed pieces. We will continue firing until all pieces are fired. Beginners pottery summer classes Bill Bauer will offer a six session summer pottery class for beginners. All six three hour classes will take place in a period of 12 days as the process requires 5 days for pottery to dry and be fired the first time and another day to be fired the second time. Classes will start June 21st and end July 2nd. You will experience the complete process of creating in clay and should produce 3 or more pots. The schedule will be as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, instruction and building projects-five days off for drying and firing-then meet the following Wednesday for instruction and glazing your works-one day off for firing the glazed pieces and meet Friday to unload the kiln and spend the rest of the class looking at and discussing (admiring) the finished pottery. Cost will be $145 for the six three hour sessions. The cost will include all supplies; clay, glazes and firings. All you will need to bring is a notebook and yourself.
